Lolo Jose's Siblings
His Brothers and Sisters
Nanay Charing, as she is known to us, is the second child of Lolo Leon and Lola Epay. When Lolo Leon died, she was taken on and raised by her older cousin (the eldest daughter of Lola Soling Alfonso) in Cebu City. Despite their distance, Nanay Charing always kept in touch with Lola Epay, Lolo Jose and the other siblings.
She was married to Capt. Eleuterio Marababol, a harbour pilot from Camiguin. Now a widow, she spends most of her time helping with the Alfonso's family business and making sure to visit Lolo in Carmen especially during family occasions and Lolo's birthday.
Lola Irene, the second daughter of Lolo Leon and Lola Epay died of illness during her teen years. To honour her memory, one of Lolo Jose's granddaughters was named Irene.
Lolo Leon and Lola Epay sadly lost Lola Regina to beriberi when the latter was only two years old. If not for Irene's chat with Lolo Jose on 12August2007, we would never have known Lolo had a sister named Regina.
Lola Florentina died at a very young age of eight due to poor health. Like Lola Regina, we did not know about her earlier on. When we were growing up with Lolo Jose and Lola Coring, we never forget to light candles for Lola Irene and Lolo Pablito but we cannot remember seeing the graves of Lola Regina and Lola Florentina.
Lolo Viano was the second son of Leon and Josefa Alinday. He married Vicenta Sanico from Carmen and together, they raised their family in Agusan Province where Lolo Viano was employed. They were blessed with six children - Eduardo, Vivian, Bebie, Marife, Leonel and Wilma. When he died in 1981, his family moved back to Carmen. Their children are now married except Leonel who chose to remain single.
Lolo Pablito was the youngest of the Alinday children. Like Lola Florentina, he had poor health and was malnourised. He died at a young age of twelve. In his remembrance, Lolo Jose's eldest daughter Edith named one of her sons Pablito.
